A bizarre scene unfolded at Surat International Airport on Monday afternoon when a swarm of bees descended on an IndiGo aircraft, grounding the flight for nearly an hour.

The Airbus A320, operating as flight 6E-7485 to Jaipur, was preparing for departure when hundreds of bees clustered around the plane’s cargo door, halting luggage loading operations.

Footage shows frantic ground staff initially attempting to disperse the swarm using smoke, but the insects stubbornly held their ground. Eventually, firefighters were called in and managed to clear the swarm by blasting water at them.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 4:40 p.m., finally took off at 5:26 p.m., following the unusual delay.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating:
"Flight 6E-784 Surat-Jaipur was delayed due to a bee incident, which is something not under our control, so flight was departed post clearance. Standard protocols were followed."

Experts say such swarming behavior is typically part of the bees’ natural reproductive process, when a queen bee leaves with part of the colony to find a new nesting site. The swarm temporarily clusters during this transition.

Passengers, though bewildered, were eventually able to proceed on their journey — thanks to the airport's emergency response.
