A hungry stray dog waited patiently for food from pupils in a school canteen.

The pooch approached youngsters at an eatery and used its paws to beg them for rice and meat in Ifugao province, the Philippines, on October 9.

Footage shows the Aspin canine sitting before the girls and tapping their legs to get their attention. The dog followed their instructions, nudging them again with its paw when they said: ‘Do it again.'

It was later given food by the youngsters and its friend, which also waited near the table.

Pupil Joizzelle Inhumang said: ‘The stray dog was very clever. It seemed to understand instructions.'

An Aspin, short for 'Asong Pinoy', which means 'Filipino dog', is a mixed-breed dog from the Philippines. They are commonly found as street dogs.
