The Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano erupted in Indonesia killing at least 10 residents living nearby.

Officials said the volcano began spewing explosive plumes of lava just before midnight on Sunday, November 3.

Burning rocks and lava landed on homes in a two-mile radius of the volcano. Many properties were seat light and at least 10 people died.

Authorities said they immediately began to evacuate several nearby villages on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara.

Hadi Wijaya, from The Center of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), said today that the volcano has been placed on its highest alert level.

He said: 'After the eruption, there was a power outage and then it was raining and big lightning which caused panic among residents.'
