A school boat carried pupils through the rice fields to return home after a class.

The education centre, built in the middle of farming fields, takes kids back from lessons on a small vessel instead of a traditional school bus in South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Footage shows the boat being driven by an adult at the front while the youngsters sit in a row behind him. They use umbrellas to shield them against the heat of the sun.

Teacher Aminudin Perikanan said: 'That is our way of life here. The children at Sapala Vocational School reach school and return home on a boat. It is the fastest mode of transportation.'

Indonesia's development in transportation technology has made significant progress, though there are areas where it still lags compared to more developed nations.
