Police are hunting a driver who reportedly fled after a hit-and-run crash in Thailand.

The driver, believed to be a foreign man, allegedly rear-ended a blue SUV with his red Honda sedan in the On Nut area of Bangkok on December 2.

The crash damaged the front of his car and ripped the rear bumper off the blue vehicle.

Footage shows the driver being swarmed by furious locals seen in the video trying to open the car doors. They demanded that he come out, but he was reported to have fled the scene.

There were no injuries reported.

Police said the case was under investigation as the driver's license plate was visible in the footage.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
