Senior officials from nearly 50 countries and regions, UN experts and officials gathered on Monday in a dialogue held in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, to discuss ways to strengthen the realization of human rights.
The Hernan Santa Cruz Dialogue on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) was jointly held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
Foreign guests also participated in a workshop and visited Beijing and Zhejiang from Dec. 2 to 8 to learn about China's human rights progress.
They have praised China for consistently supporting the international human rights cause.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): LIANA AHMED, Diplomatic Attache, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt
"I think it's really great that China is doing something that is sustainable. And it's producing every-day needs for people in a way that is environmentally friendly to protect the environment. I think that's really great."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): KISSIMA BITTAYE, Acting Principal State Counsel, Attorney General's Chambers and Ministry of Justice, Gambia
"I think China has done a lot in terms of its human right development. They have to try to choose their own path of the human right development, and which is very okay, I believe, because these (efforts) help China to be able to develop in so many aspects of life, and the approach that they use has helped to uplift the life of the people."
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): GHEFARI F. ELSAYED, Counselor in the department of peace and humanitarian affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan
"The lesson that China is teaching us is that there is no unitary line for international development. Every country could have its own path to development."
