This is the dramatic moment a hero soldier rescues an elderly woman from floods in Indonesia.

Second Sergeant Rudi Kurniawan, a member of the Babinsa from Koramil-18 Agrabinta, braved the deluge to save residents trapped in Mekarsari Village, Agrabinta District, Cianjur Regency, West Java Province, on Wednesday, December 4, amid heavy rainfall.

Footage shows Kurniawan wading through chest-deep floodwaters, carrying the elderly woman on his back to safety.

Lieutenant Colonel Kav Yerry Bagus Merdiyanto, Commander of the 0608 Cianjur Military District Command, reported that the sergeant successfully helped dozens of stranded locals.

He said: 'After receiving information that there were still residents trapped in their homes due to flooding, Sergeant Rudi immediately moved to search the houses.

'Our members were almost swept away by the current because the flood location was near a river.'

Authorities confirmed the floodwaters reached 1.5 metres during the rescue, with a very strong current.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that at least 12 people have been killed and several others remain missing following a series of natural disasters, including landslides, floods, windstorms, and ground movements in West Java province since last week.

The region is bracing for further severe weather, with meteorologists warning of three tropical cyclones that could bring intense rainfall to various regions.

The extreme weather is expected to affect areas in both western and eastern Indonesia in the coming days, bringing heavy rainfall and high waves.
