At approximately 2:46 pm on December 11, a powerful explosion occurred in a high-rise residential building at Shenzhen Bay Yuefu Phase II in Shenzhen's Nanshan District. The explosion, attributed to a gas leak, generated a strong shockwave that was felt at nearby landmarks, including the prominent "Spring Bamboo" tower.

Witnesses reported smelling gas before the blast, which caused a loud bang and significant tremors. The affected apartment's balcony and interior were destroyed, triggering a fire. A woman reportedly fell from the balcony during the incident. The fire impacted four to five floors of the building, with two suffering severe damage and the façade nearly burned away. Windows in other units were also shattered to varying degrees.

The Shenzhen Fire and Rescue Brigade dispatched 16 fire trucks and 80 personnel to the scene. Initial reports indicate the fire originated near unit C on the 28th floor, and the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

The blaze has been contained on the 27th, 28th, and 29th floors, though flames persist on the 30th floor. Firefighters have set up a containment zone on the 31st floor to prevent further spread. The total height of the affected building is 41 stories.

The Shenzhen Bay Yuefu Phase II complex, completed in 2017, is one of the city's premium residential developments, with property prices averaging around ¥200,000 per square meter (~$28,000). Further information on casualties is pending as rescue efforts continue.
