Raging Belarusian tourist wrestles with police then chases them away in Thailand
This is the chaotic moment a rampaging Belarusian tourist in his underwear wrestled with police officers in Thailand.
Siarhei Asychuk, 39, was allegedly drunk when he went berserk in a hotel carpark near Karon Beach on the busy tourist island Phuket in the early hours of December 11.
Footage shows the out-of-control holidaymaker, seen in the video wearing only underpants, bellowing as he charged and tried to slam into the cops dispatched to control him. His kids and wife were also at the scene crying as they screamed for him to stop.
Multiple security guards and policemen attempted to subdue the raging father-of-three, but he easily shrugged them off with his large build. The hulking tourist then drove the officers away before reinforcements arrived and detained him.
Police Colonel Khundet Na Nong Khai, superintendent of the Karon Police Station, said they received a report that a drunk Russian, later found to be Belarusian, was causing a disturbance at the hotel at 3:10 am.
He said: ‘We have charged him with public intoxication, obstruction of officers in the performance of their duties, violence, and property damage. He was handed over to the inquiry officer for further legal action.'
The Karon Police Station said in a report that they exercised maximum restraint in arresting the Belarusian. They avoided using their police issue handguns in order to 'try and calm the situation'.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Aeksak Kwanwan said Siarhei and his family were due to return home on December 11. His wife and kids visited him at the police station before flying out of Thailand.
Siarhei was scheduled to appear in court today, December 12.
The policeman added: 'The officers showed bravery and acted professionally. They did not use their guns or weapons as it could have made the situation worse. They tried to calm the tourist.'
Phuket is a notorious enclave of criminal activity that has become a popular destination for tourists fleeing from the Russia-Ukraine war.
Thai locals have been blaming the Thai government's free visa policy for the influx of 'low-quality tourists' in the country. The scheme was implemented to boost income from Thailand's tourism industry.
