China - December 19, 2024 AI reshapes China's warehousing industry (Voice_over) The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing released a report recently outlining the ways in which technologies like 5G and AI are transforming the country’s warehouseing industry. Warehouse automation is the use of technology and machinery to automate various tasks within a warehouse environment, from automated storage and retrieval systems to robotics, conveyors, automated guided vehicles and management software. And at this warehouse in the Pilot Free Trade Zone Qingdao Area in east China’s Shandong Province, workers are testing an AI-powered object recognition system. (Sound_bite) Wang Meng, Manager, warehouse: "When a batch of goods is stored, it goes through inbound and outbound inventory checks, and stocktaking, which are highly labor-intensive and inefficient. With AI algorithms, real-time inventory tracking is now realized and we can currently achieve AI-based recognition for common standardized goods." (Voice_over) Officials from the CFLP say the industry is transitioning from system integration to full-process digitalization. (Sound_bite) Cui Zhongfu, Vice chairman, China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing: "The development and application of Internet of Things technology have further enhanced our warehousing efficiency. We need to further leverage the IoT technology to improve the transparency and traceability of the entire supply chain, reducing information asymmetry." (Voice_over) A recent analysis from Grand View Research, based in California in the U.S., estimates the value of the global warehouse automation market will top 21 million U.S. dollars this year.
