A massive fire at a shopping mall killed at least nine in Indonesia.

Aerial footage shows the large blaze with thick smoke rising from the burning Glodok Plaza in the crowded Tamansari district of Jakarta on Wednesday evening, January 15.

Reports said the fire started on the ninth floor and quickly spread to the eighth and seventh floors around 9:20 pm. Many shoppers were reportedly inside when the flames broke out.

The city's fire department sent over 47 fire trucks and 200 personnel to the scene, and the blaze was brought under control 12 hours later.

Glodok Plaza is known as a major electronics market in Jakarta.

Police said it would take several days to identify the victims, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
