This is the shocking moment a glass door shattered on a boy as he tried to stop it from closing at a supermarket in Malaysia.

The youngster was playing by the entrance and curiously leaned and clutched on one of the panels as it moved to shut in Terengganu on January 20.

CCTV footage shows the glass door breaking into thousands of pieces with the kid below.

The little boy was scared and ran away as sharp debris fell on him before shocked onlookers rushed to check.

One of the shoppers at the scene Nadiah Mohd said: 'When these things happen, who do we blame? The child or the parents? I hope the child was fine.'

The youngster was seen running towards adults into the store, believed to be his parents. He did not have serious injuries.

The supermarket managers said they would compensate the youngster's family for the medical costs.

An automatic glass door opens and closes using sensors. It could shatter if force is applied, especially if the door's closing mechanism continues to operate, creating tension in the glass.
