Smoke pours from Boeing 737 parked at airport in Argentina
Smoke poured out of a plane while it was parked at an airport in Argentina.
Dramatic footage shows the Boeing 737-800 of the Spanish airline Albastar, leased by Flybondi, emitting a thick cloud of smoke at the Jujuy Gobernador Horacio Guzman International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, January 22.
Staff were reportedly loading luggage onto the aircraft when a fuel leak occurred in the conveyor belt engine. This caused a large amount of smoke to enter the cargo hold and reach the cabin, triggering the aircraft's fire alarm.
Managers said the airport's Security, Rescue, and Firefighting Service (SSEI) followed established security protocols.
Flybondi activated its internal procedures and delayed Flight FO 5193, bound for Buenos Aires until the aircraft's maintenance status was confirmed.
The company said: 'A fault in a baggage carousel serving EC-NLK operated by AlbaStar for Flybondi affected the continuity of flight FO 5193.
'There was no damage to the aircraft and no passengers were reported affected by this situation.'
This incident occurred amid the expansion of the Spanish airline in Argentina following the government's approval of foreign airlines for domestic flights in September.
In November, Flybondi received two Boeing 737-800s from AlbaStar under a leasing agreement.
