Hughes Fire spreads across 10,000 acres in Los Angeles
Footage shows the Hughes Fire as it spread across more than 10,000 acres in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday afternoon.
Footage captured by Kevin Manthei from a car near Castaic Lake, off Lake Hughes Road, shows smoke towering over nearby homes.
The wildfire, fueled by high winds, began around 10:45 am but within the first hour, the blaze had scorched more than 500 acres, and by 12:30 pm., it had expanded to 3,407 acres, according to Cal Fire.
Officials said that by 1 pm., flames continued to race through the dry terrain, forcing mandatory evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents in the surrounding areas.
