Locals smashed the wall of a school compound to ease a flash flood in the Philippines.

Footage shows two residents using hammers to break through the concrete in Tawi-Tawi on January 27.

The cracks became bigger and water surged through, allowing to flow it out into drains.

Deluge accumulated inside the compound and could not flow out so they had to make the holes bigger using tools.

Teacher Maryam Nuruddin said: 'The fence was blocking the flood. There was too much water.'
