Orangutan seen walking along power lines in Indonesia
This is the shocking moment an orangutan was seen walking along power lines in Indonesia.
The primate was recorded treading on the cables dangling in the air in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on January 31.
Footage shows the ape holding onto utility wires over a public market, attracting the attention of worried locals.
Moments later, it reached the end of the pole. Upon grasping the high-voltage pole, the post suddenly emitted sparks and smoke, causing the poor animal to be electrocuted.
It then fell into a clogged, water-filled canal and instantly died.
Central Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Center Officer Junaidi said: 'When we arrived at the scene, we found the orangutan lying on the road. It had been electrocuted.'
Orangutans are known for their arboreal lifestyle, which makes them adept at climbing and swinging through trees. The behaviour is deeply ingrained in their instincts and physical abilities.
