A truck carrying gas cylinders caught fire, triggering a series of massive explosions in India.

Local media reported that the vehicle was carrying around 60 cooking gas cylinders in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, when the incident happened in the early morning of Saturday, February 1.

At least four nearby furniture shops were destroyed, and some vehicles parked in the area were also burned.

Chief Fire Officer Rahul Kumar said: 'The sound of the cylinder blast can be heard for several kilometres in the vicinity.'

Dramatic footage shows firefighters dousing the flames, with the sirens of emergency vehicles heard in the background.

Reports said it took more than eight fire trucks approximately 90 minutes to control the fire.

Officials said that when the truck driver noticed the fire, he parked it near a petrol pump. Shortly after, the blasts occurred, causing the staff to flee the station.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
