A loud explosion was heard at a stadium under construction in France.

Residents reported hearing multiple detonations shortly before a fire broke out at the site in Clamart, Paris, on Monday, May 12.

Dramatic footage shows thick, dark smoke billowing into the sky, with bright orange flames erupting from the Hunebelle Stadium around 1 pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and quickly began efforts to contain the blaze and secure the area as the fire threatened to spread further.

The explosions were believed to have been caused by gas cylinders stored on-site, possibly igniting due to a technical fault or mishandling.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
