A driver instantly regretted taking on the floods when surging torrents of muddy water washed away his vehicle.

Dramatic footage shows the yellow car struggling against the raging deluge following heavy rain in Bandung, West Java Province, Indonesia, on January 24.

It later became stranded by the swift flood, forcing the driver to abandon his new car and scramble to safety.

Authorities said the rainfall in Bandung City on Friday was classified as extreme, with an intensity of 67.8 millimetres per hour between 4:20 pm and 5:20 pm.

Indonesia and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia have been experiencing the monsoon season, which typically brings soaring temperatures followed by intense afternoon rainstorms. These conditions have triggered widespread flash floods and landslides across the region.
