US: Chinese FM expounds China's views on improving global governance at UN meeting
New York, United States - February 18, 2025 Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday elaborated on China's views on reforming and improving global governance when he presided over a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council. Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that 80 years ago, the Chinese representative was the first to solemnly sign the UN Charter, adding a colorful page to world history with a Chinese writing brush. After resuming its legitimate seat in the United Nations, China has continued to contribute to global governance. The concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Security Initiative (GSI), and the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping are China's solutions for reforming and improving global governance, said Wang. China pursues a global governance featuring peace and security. As a major country with the best record on peace and security issues, China adheres to the path of peaceful development, insists on resolving disputes and differences by peaceful means, and insists on playing a constructive role in promoting the resolution of hot issues. Wang noted that China's Blue Helmets have become a key force in UN peacekeeping operations, lighting up hope for world peace. China promotes global governance for common development, said Wang, stressing that as the largest developing country, China has focused on promoting high-quality development and unswervingly expanded high-level opening up. China has become a major trading partner of more than 150 countries and regions, and has been advocating inclusive economic globalization and promoting high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, making important contributions to promoting the prosperity and development of all countries, said Wang. China advocates open and inclusive global governance. As an ancient country with a long history, China has always believed in harmony without uniformity, inclusiveness, respect for the diversity of civilizations, and the promotion of common values for all mankind, he said. China has promoted exchanges and dialogues among different civilizations, peaceful coexistence, and harmonious coexistence, injecting new vitality into the progress of human civilization, said Wang. China practices global governance based on multilateral cooperation. As a founding member of the United Nations, China has taken the lead in practicing true multilateralism, and has joined almost all universal intergovernmental international organizations and more than 600 international conventions and amendments, supporting the United Nations in playing a central role in international affairs and continuously contributing to the cause of the United Nations, the Chinese foreign minister concluded.
