Sabotage fears after Audi swerves violently as wheel explodes on Serbian president's car
Terrifying footage shows an Audi carrying the President of Serbia swerving violently on the road as its rear left wheel explodes while driving at speed, prompting fears of sabotage.
The incident occurred on the way to Mokrin, in the Kikinda municipality in the North Banat District of Serbia, on February 8.
The country head, Aleksandar Vucic, 54, was reportedly in the car at the time.
A video clip shows the moment the wheel explodes, with smoke quickly emanating from the rear-left wheel as the car swerves violently on the road.
The whole tyre is then seen shooting off the car and into a ditch by the side of the road, leaving what appears to be the vehicle's bumper somewhat mangled.
It slows down and stops on the road before two men get out, quickly joined by a third, to inspect the damage.
One of the men can be seen pulling off a chunk of mangled debris from the vehicle, while another man opens the boot of the car, presumably to retrieve the spare tyre.
Vucic is also seen stepping out of the Audi at the end of the footage, which was reportedly filmed by another vehicle in the presidential motorcade.
He was reportedly moved to a different vehicle so he could continue his journey.
The authorities have reportedly investigated the incident, hinting that it may not have been accidental.
Vucic later appeared on TV to say that it was 'up to the authorities' to determine if the tyre had burst accidentally or if it was due to 'God knows what else'.
He stated that the investigation is being conducted by the Military Security Agency and the Military Police, as well as the 'Cobra' special units.
