A bus overturned on a sharp bend leaving 11 passengers injured in Thailand.

The pink bus was travelling after heavy rain when it skidded out of control on the slippery Phet Kasem Road in Phang Nga province, on February 20.

Police and medics arrived at the scene after receiving a report at around 5:30 pm.

They found the bus lying on its side near an electric pole. Its windshield had shattered and debris from the wreckage was strewn on the grassy roadsidfe.

Officers said 11 people, including a three-year-old toddler in critical condition, were rushed to the Phang Nga Hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said: 'The passengers were on their way to Phatthalung province from Phuket island. The road was slippery after the downpour. We believe the driver may have been speeding, causing the bus to lose control. Police have gathered evidence and are questioning the driver and for legal action.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
