Tourist breaks police wheel lock on his illegally parked motorcycle
A tourist was caught breaking a police wheel lock on his illegally parked motorcycle in Thailand.
Footage shows the foreign holidaymaker smashing the chains with a rock in front of Central Mall, Ratchauthit 200 Years Road in Patong, Phuket.
The individual was seen with two other visitors, a male and a female, who appeared to be waiting for him to finish removing the lock that police had placed after the motorcycle was allegedly parked in a no-parking area.
A shocked bystander recorded the scene on Monday, January 13, around 7 pm. However, police were unable to trace the alleged offender.
Authorities emphasised that tampering with an immobilisation device, such as a wheel lock, is prohibited by law. Individuals who remove or damage such devices may face legal consequences, including imprisonment.
Under the Land Traffic Act, B.E. 2522, Section 159, damaging or removing a vehicle immobilisation device may result in imprisonment for up to 3 months, a fine of up to 5,000 baht (118 GBP), or both.
This act may also be classified as property damage under Section 358 of the Penal Code. Offenders may face imprisonment for up to 3 years, a fine of up to 60,000 baht (1,415 GBP), or both.
