A Boeing 777 plane was damaged after being hit by a catering truck in Italy.

The aircraft, operated by LATAM Airlines Brasil, was reportedly struck by a vehicle supplying food for the onboard service while parked at Milan Malpensa International Airport on Wednesday, March 5.

Footage shows the aeroplane, registered as PT-MUE, with damage to the lower part of the fuselage.

An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'A LATAM flight LA8073, a Boeing 777-300ER, was damaged after being struck by a catering truck. The skin of the rear underside of the fuselage was torn.'

The aircraft, which can hold 362 passengers, was scheduled to return to Brazil in the morning. However, the incident forced the flight to be cancelled.

The company said: 'LATAM regrets the inconvenience and is offering the necessary assistance to customers, who will be accommodated on another aircraft on flight LA9511 (Milan-Sao Paulo), scheduled to take off at 12:00 pm local time on Thursday.'

No injuries were reported, and the aircraft was empty at the time of the incident.
