An unexploded World War II bomb caused chaos at one of France's busiest train stations.

The 500kg bomb containing 200kg of explosives was unearthed under a building during a railway bridge replacement in Saint-Denis, Paris, on March 7.

The location was only less than 3km away from Gare du Nord Station, affecting both domestic and international travel.

Footage shows scenes from Gare du Nord station with many passengers stranded. Police roamed the area to assist and set up a security perimetre.

Officials announced that train services would gradually resume while the bomb was defused later that day.

Paris' Gare du Nord station handles trains heading north from Prais, Lille, Calais, London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Cologne.
