Amreli, India - March 21, 2025 [Note: no sound] A dramatic rescue operation unfolded when a lioness fell into a 35-foot-deep open well while searching for prey. The incident took place in Vadhera village, Jafrabad, Amreli, Gujrat, western India, on March 21. G.L. Vaghela, RFO of the Jafrabad Division in Gujarat, stated that around 2:00 AM, a lioness, estimated to be between five to nine years old, fell into a 35-foot-deep well in Vadhera village within the Jafrabad Wildlife Range. Upon receiving the alert, the Jafrabad Range staff swiftly arrived at the scene. They first lowered a cot into the well using ropes, enabling the lioness to climb onto it. Following this, a side-shutter cage was carefully lowered, and once the lioness entered, she was safely rescued and brought out. A veterinary officer also arrived at the scene in time to examine the lioness, confirming that she was in good health with no external injuries. The animal has now been moved to the Babarkot Animal Care Center for further observation.
