A pregnant cow was rescued while giving birth to a calf in India.

The bovine had been in labour since 5 pm on Tuesday, March 25, in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, when her baby became lodged, prompting residents to call for help.

The Atal Kamdhenu Gau Sewa Sansthan team, led by the NGO's chairman, Gaurav Mishra, and Dr Diwakar Yadav, came to the aid of the distressed animal.

Footage shows the cow lying on the ground behind the Sohagpur Ganesh temple, with her baby trapped in the birth canal.

Authorities confirmed that the mother successfully delivered a healthy calf without the need for surgery.
