Manchester, United Kingdom - October 26, 2024 A man has been jailed following a pursuit in which he reached speeds of up to 100mph and rammed into a police vehicle. Jayden O’Donnell, born on March 24, 2002, of Pilgrim's Way, Salford, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Manchester Crown Court yesterday. He had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possession of a bladed article, disqualified driving, and having no insurance. The incident began on October 26, 2024, at around 10:50 p.m. Officers from North Manchester’s neighbourhood policing team spotted O’Donnell in a grey Mazda on Moston Lane after he left a nearby pub. When he noticed the officers, O’Donnell sped off down Moston Lane at over 60mph, starting a chase. He drove the wrong way around a roundabout and hit speeds above 80mph, briefly evading police. A minute later, another patrol saw him run red lights on Rochdale Road and joined the pursuit. O’Donnell reached 100mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road. During the chase, he reverse-rammed the officers’ vehicle twice. Fortunately, no officers were hurt. O’Donnell then abandoned his car and fled up an alleyway. Police followed him to a house on Styhead Drive, where they found him hiding under a bed. PCs Ditta and Khan arrested him. Inspector Dan Pickavance of GMP’s City of Manchester district praised the officers’ professionalism. He said O’Donnell’s reckless driving endangered lives and that he was relieved no one was injured in the ram attack. The pursuit and arrest took place in north Manchester, an area regularly patrolled by police. O’Donnell is now off the streets after pleading guilty.
