Dramatic footage shows the freak weather as it swept through the residential area on April 2.

Angel said: 'A rain-wrapped tornado just passed north of me in Plainfield. Sirens going off everywhere.'

Flashes of lightning illuminated the scene as well.

Officials reported that multiple tornadoes and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued on Wednesday across parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Mississippi as storms affected these and other states throughout the evening.

Forecasters linked the intense weather to the combination of daytime heating, an unstable atmosphere, strong wind shear, and a surge of moisture flowing from the Gulf into the central part of the country.
