Tesla goes airborne, flips midair and crushes parked cars in China
At around 3:00 p.m. on April 6, a dramatic traffic accident occurred on Taishan Avenue East in Yubei District, Chongqing: a Tesla Model Y, traveling at high speed, crashed into a median flower bed, launched into the air, and landed on top of five parked cars — yet the driver miraculously suffered only minor injuries.
Video footage shows that moments before the crash, the Tesla had scraped against another vehicle, causing the hubcap to fall off. It then sped toward a corner flower bed, went airborne, collided with a blue truck midair, flipped several times, and finally crashed down onto a row of parked cars.
According to nearby shop owners, the Tesla was driven by a woman in her thirties, who was unharmed in the crash, although the vehicle was almost completely destroyed. The five damaged vehicles included luxury brands like Porsche and Audi. Despite the destruction, there were no injuries reported among the affected vehicles.
Tesla's backend data indicated that the driver did not brake before the impact — potentially due to confusion caused by the single-pedal driving mode.
Local traffic police are currently conducting a full investigation into the cause of the incident.
