From Chaska Police Department: It was 5:39 a.m. this morning (4/7/25). The night shift was winding down when a call came over the radio: a house was on fire and someone was still inside.
Sgt. Hance was the first to arrive. A neighbor, who was also the 9-1-1 caller, was outside directing emergency responders. Sgt. Hance noticed the fire was beneath the home and flames were starting to climb up the A/C unit.
Sgt. Hance entered the smoke-filled house. Inside, he found an 80-year-old woman who wasn't able to evacuate herself. After confirming she was alone, Sgt. Hance helped her out.
Moments later, The Chaska Fire Department arrived and got to work, like a well oiled machine. From the time the 9-1-1 call came in to the moment Sgt. Hance helped her get out – less than 5 minutes.
Fast. Focused. Life-saving. Day in, day out. That’s why we’re here.
Thankfully, no one was injured and the fire department was able to quickly extinguish the fire, preventing further destruction.
