A stunning meteor illuminated the night sky over the Balearic Sea in Spain.

Breathtaking footage captured a fireball streaking across the horizon, with the light coming from the moon, on April 13, around 1:21 am CET.

Onlookers said it was also spotted in Vallirana, Barcelona.

Meteors are bits of comets and asteroids. As these objects pass the Sun, they leave a dusty trail. Each year, Earth passes through this debris, causing the bits to burn up in the atmosphere and create fiery streaks in the sky.

Spain is located in the southern part of Europe, with many areas enjoying clear skies and relatively low levels of light pollution, especially in rural regions. This can provide excellent viewing conditions for celestial events like meteor showers.
