SWAT teams swoop on wanted "alleged underworld figure" who sparked manhunt
This is the moment SWAT teams arrested an "alleged underworld associate" who sparked a manhunt after a woman was stabbed."
Police appealed for help to find Dean Carr, 42, and said he was "wanted on an outstanding warrant related to alleged domestic violence offences", on Sunday."
Sydney's Daily Telegraph described him as an "alleged underworld figure" and said the hunt came after "a woman was stabbed during an early morning home invasion in a luxury high-rise apartment in Sydney's CBD"."
Footage taken by an onlooker in Redfern, Sydney, Australia, shows a man surrounded by armed police, SWAT team officers and unmarked agents, being bandaged up and taken away in an ambulance on a stretcher.
Police hunting for Carr confirmed a Tactical Operations Unit and Robbery and Serious Crime Squad arrested a man, 42, shortly before 5pm today (14) in a park in Redfern, Sydney.
The resident, who does not wish to be named, said: "I heard four rounds of gunshots go off but I'm used to hearing strange noises in the area where I live. "
"But I heard yelling go on for five minutes. I looked out the window and saw one of the SWAT team with a full balaclava and a massive assault rifle or whatever that giant gun is. "
"Then I looked past that police officer and there was another SWAT team member with a police dog, about 10 unmarked police officers in civilian clothing with full face balaclavas all holding massive guns and I was like ‘what is going on?'"
"Then I saw the person on the floor, handcuffed with a bandage around his head."
"More and more police officers kept turning up in unmarked cars as well as what I assume were detectives."
She estimated there to be around 30 police officers blocking off the street.
The resident added there was a white four-wheel drive diagonally parked, preventing a black car from moving. And police were using mirror to search undernearh one of the cars.
The first New South Wales police statement said: "Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a wanted man in the Sydney area."
"Dean Carr, aged 42, is wanted on an outstanding warrant related to alleged domestic violence offences in the Pyrmont area."
"Anyone who sees him is urged not to approach him but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately."
A second said: "A 42-year-old man – wanted on an outstanding warrant for alleged domestic violence offences in the Pyrmont area – has been arrested."
"Detectives attached to Sydney City Police Area Command, assisted by members of the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) and Robbery and Serious Crime Squad (R&SCS), arrested the man shortly before 5pm today (Monday 14 April 2025), in a park at the intersection of Pitt and McEvoy streets."
