Two Filipinos were rescued after being injured by a landslide at a waterfall in a national park.

Mary Ann Angel and Cecil Silverio, both 38, were hurt while visiting Haew Narok Waterfall in Khao Yai National Park in Prachinburi, Thailand, on April 16.

After receiving a report at 12.30 am, rescuers were dispatched to the bridge at the second layer of the waterfall.

The injured tourists were transported to the emergency room of Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital for medical treatment.

Angel suffered a broken leg and a nosebleed, while Silverio was awaiting results from a neck bone examination and an MRI scan.

Chaiya Huayhongthong, chief of Khao Yai National Park, said the group of Filipino language teachers, including five adults and two children, travelled from Bangkok to visit the national park during the Songkran festival before walking down to the waterfall.

While returning, a sudden landslide caused soil and rocks to fall on two of them.

Chaiya added that the landslide occurred after four to five days of continuous heavy rain, and he had ordered the closure of the waterfall after the bridge was damaged.
