Rescue teams are still searching for a missing Russian businessman who disappeared off the coast of Bali.

Volunteers set out to find Sergei Eliseev, 36, who had disappeared off Karangasem while fishing by himself on April 16.

Footage shows personnel sailing on a rubber boat to scour the waters on April 23.

The operation had been extended at the request of the Russian Embassy, rescuers said.

Gusti Ngurah Eka Wiadnyana, co-ordinator of the local search and rescue (SAR) unit, said on Wednesday: 'In accordance with the standard operating procedures, the search for the Russian citizen should have been stopped today because it has been a week since he vanished in Amed waters.

'The Russian Embassy sent a letter of request to extend the operation. Tomorrow morning, we will set out together with the joint SAR Team to resume the search.'

He added that thunderstorms, tall waves, and strong winds were hampering the efforts.

Sergei, the founder of Russian health foods brand, Granolife, reportedly went on a solo fishing trip off the island on April 16. He had managed to send to friends a selfie video of himself riding the boat on Wednesday evening, before he became unreachable.

Fishermen found his unmanned boat the next day, carrying two phones, a laptop, and a pair of shorts.

The Indonesian coast, though stunning, poses several dangers including strong rip currents, rogue waves, and unpredictable tides that can make swimming or sailing perilous, especially for inexperienced tourists.
