US, Bakersfield: Bakersfield Recovery Operation Underway For
Bakersfield, United States - May 05, 2025 05/05/2025 02:44 pm GMT-0700 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Press Release Kern County Fire Department Public Information Officer Jonathan Drucker: On Monday at approximately 2:44 p.m., firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department and Bakersfield Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a seriously injured individual down in a trench at a construction site on Stockdale Ranch Road. We are deeply saddened to report that, upon arrival, it was determined the victim was deceased. Recovering the body will require an extensive and technical operation. The victim currently lies more than 20 feet below grade in an open trench, and the trench walls present a significant collapse hazard for rescue workers. This delicate operation will be carried out by Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Teams from both KCFD and BFD, working together to safely and successfully recover the deceased. Joining the USAR teams are individuals from Griffith Company, a local contractor, who have graciously volunteered to assist with their experience, expertise and labor. Efforts are ongoing and are expected to continue throughout the night. We ask that your thoughts and prayers be with the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. No injuries to firefighters have been reported. The incident is under investigation by the Bakersfield Police Department. Once removed, the body of the deceased will be left in the care of the Kern County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
