ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 10, 2025: Hundreds of protestors gathered in Rotterdam on Saturday, May 10, for a poignant memorial where 1,400 pairs of white shoes were laid out in a public square to honor healthcare workers killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. The event, organized by the Doctors for Gaza Foundation, brought together doctors, nurses, medical students, and human rights activists from across the Netherlands and beyond. Participants commemorated the hundreds of healthcare workers who lost their lives in the ongoing Israeli assault by reading aloud their names. The powerful visual tribute not only called for justice but also served as a reminder of the devastating impact of Israel's attacks on medical professionals in Gaza. Bisan Alhay, Palestinian medical student and Manager of the Doctors for Gaza Foundation, told Anadolu correspondent that the killing of healthcare workers, the obstruction of healthcare services, and the bombing of hospitals are violations of international law. Alhay said that they want to send a message to the hospitals in the Netherlands and to the government, who remain silent on this issue, and she added that the international law is clearly being violated. The Israeli army renewed its assault on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas. Nearly 52,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in Israeli genocidet since October 2023, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a separate genocide case at the International Court of Justice stemming from its actions in the besieged territory. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
