Laredo, United States - May 09, 2025 On May 9, a smuggler behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger led Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers on a reckless high-speed pursuit along IH-35 in Webb County. Humberto Garcia of Laredo tore through neighborhoods at speeds over 100 miles per hour. The chaos escalated when Garcia crashed into a wall, then hit another vehicle, causing heavy damage. After the first impact, the car’s hood flew open and stayed that way. Still, Garcia kept driving—completely blind—while fleeing from police with the windshield fully obstructed. Garcia eventually bailed out and ran. When he ignored verbal commands, a Trooper deployed a Taser and took him into custody. He now faces charges including smuggling of persons, evading arrest, reckless driving, and failure to stop and render aid. Four illegal immigrants were found in the car and referred to U.S. Border Patrol. TxDPS officials say the incident is another example of how smugglers put lives at risk—both those they smuggle and the public.
