An American tourist was rescued while exploring a canyon in Spain.

The 20-year-old canyoneer required evacuation by emergency responders after dislocating her shoulder on Sunday, May 18.

The injury occurred after she jumped into the water in the Mascun Superior canyon in Bierge, Huesca.

Huesca's aerial unit, GREIM Huesca, and a 061 medical team were activated around noon. They flew over the area and located the injured holidaymaker.

She was treated on site, then lifted using a crane system and evacuated to the nearby town of Rodellar.

Authorities confirmed that she remains under medical care.
