Police arrive at tourist market where gunman killed five in Bangkok
A gunman has killed at least five people and injured two others during a rampage at a well-known tourist market in Thailand.
The suspect opened fire among the stalls next to the Chatuchak Weekend Market in the capital, Bangkok, at around 12:30 pm local time.
Officials said the shooting unfolded at a collection point for donations for residents evacuated from the clashes along the border with Cambodia.
The suspect reportedly killed his former colleagues with a CZ Shadow II handgun before being seen walking through a car park.
Police, seen in the video arriving at the crime scene, said the suspect later shot himself and was found dead nearby.
Officials identified the shooter as a 61-year-old former security guard who worked in the area. They currently do not know the motive.
Thailand's Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, confirmed the deaths of five people and injuries to two others.
The fatalities were four men and one woman, while the two injured victims were both females.
He said he was travelling to the site to closely follow the developments and oversee further investigation into the shooting.
The Chatuchak Weekend Market is open to visitors from Friday to Sunday. Traders work during the week.
