A powerful rainstorm swept through Alexandria, Egypt, on May 30, 2025, drenching the city and flooding its streets, as captured in striking footage shared by @capttits on X.

The video highlights the intensity of the downpour and the mounting strain on Alexandria’s aging infrastructure — a recurring issue in a city highly vulnerable to climate change. Experts warn that Alexandria is sinking at a rate of approximately three millimeters per year, while sea levels continue to rise due to global warming and upstream impacts from Nile dams.

The United Nations has warned that in a worst-case scenario, a one-meter rise in sea level by 2050 could submerge a third of the Nile Delta — placing cities like Alexandria at extreme risk.

In a bid to strengthen its energy and infrastructure resilience, Egypt recently welcomed the arrival of the FSRU Energos Power at Alexandria Port on May 27. The floating storage and regasification unit is expected to secure natural gas supplies during high-demand periods, supporting the nation’s climate adaptation efforts.
