Planes navigated steep terrain to drop retardant on the Frazier Fire in California.

Dramatic footage shows the firefighting aircraft releasing the substance as smoke billowed from the burning landscape on May 31.

Ground crews worked in coordination with aerial support to help slow the fire's spread.

Authorities said the blaze was first reported on Thursday at around 1:55 pm in Kern County. It has burned 105 acres.

Emergency responders had contained 85 per cent of the wildfire by Sunday evening.

The cause of the flames remains under investigation.
