Dramatic footage shows firefighting planes dropping fire retardant on the smouldering Palisades Fire in California.

Authorities said the blaze has scorched more than 23,713 acres in the Los Angeles area as of January 18.

Cal Fire reported at least 6,051 structures destroyed, with 788 others damaged. By Monday, the flames were 59 per cent contained. It has claimed at least 10 lives, with three civilians and one firefighter injured.

Evacuations remain for Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Brentwood, and Topanga, with mandatory orders affecting thousands.

Governor Gavin Newsom and local officials have mobilised resources to assist residents.

The California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS), working with local, state, and federal partners, provides food, water, shelter, and healthcare, including help with prescriptions, mental health support, and medical care.
