A Chinese tourist was arrested for allegedly scamming his friend out of more than 18,000 GBP in Thailand.

Li, 38, reportedly tricked his buddy into depositing 38,712 USDT cryptocurrency into his account in exchange for 178,000 yuan (18,300 GBP).

However, he disappeared from Thai Sin City Pattaya without paying after the digital currency was credited.

Police caught the suspected fraudster at the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok on Wednesday, June 4. The officers blocked him as he was boarding a plane to Da Nang, Vietnam on Air Asia flight FD638.

Police Colonel Atisak Panya, superintendent of the Don Mueang Airport Immigration Bureau Checkpoint, said: 'The victim lodged a complaint after Mr. Li refused to transfer the Chinese yuan as agreed. He will be sent to the Pattaya City Police Station for further legal proceedings.'
