India has officially launched the world’s tallest railway bridge — the iconic Chenab Bridge — with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the engineering marvel in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

Soaring 359 meters (1,180 feet) above the Chenab River, the arched structure is 29 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower, making it the highest railway bridge on the planet.

The bridge, which cost over $160 million and stretches 1,315 meters (4,314 feet), marks a major milestone — it connects the Kashmir Valley to India’s national railway network for the first time in history.

The inauguration comes just weeks after a deadly militant attack on tourists in the region, which briefly escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. Modi’s visit to the region is his first since the April violence.

Decades in the making, the Chenab Bridge now stands as a symbol of connectivity, resilience, and India's growing infrastructure ambitions.
