Sweden: Thousands hold pro-Palestinian protest in Swedish capital Stockholm
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - JUNE 7, 2025: Thousands of people took to the streets of Stockholm, Sweden’s capital, on Saturday, June 7, to protest Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza. Nearly 20,000 demonstrators gathered in the Odenplan district, demanding an end to the Israeli assaults on Gaza and the West Bank during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Carrying Palestinian flags, the protesters marched with banners bearing messages such as “There is a massacre in Palestine,” “Freedom is near,” “There is genocide in Gaza,” and “Immediate, indefinite ceasefire for Gaza.” Chanting slogans like “The people of Palestine are not alone” and “Raise your voice for Palestine,” the crowd proceeded toward the Swedish Parliament. During the protest, doctors and nurses carried bloodied toy dolls symbolizing the children killed in Palestine, to remind the death of children and babies in the Palestinian enclave during the genocide. One individual provoked the protesters by displaying an Israeli flag. When a protester reacted to the provocateur, the police briefly detained him. On Friday alone, the first day of Eid al-Adha, 33 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes and shelling across several areas of the Gaza Strip. With two Eids (major Muslim holidays) per year under the Muslim calendar system, this is the fourth Eid for Gazans since October 2023, when Israel launched a genocidal war which has killed nearly 54,800 Palestinians, created famine conditions, and left the enclave all but uninhabitable.
