Drunk Swedish tourist, 54, critically injured after being run over in car park
This is the horrifying moment a drunk Swedish tourist was run over in a car park in Thailand.
Paul Henderson, 54, had reportedly been binge drinking before collapsing outside an entertainment venue in depraved party town Pattaya, early morning today.
The intoxicated holidaymaker sprawled on the pavement to rest as a white Mitsubishi Attrage slowly pulled into the car park.
CCTV footage shows the heart-stopping moment the vehicle rolled straight over Paul's head. He let out a bloodcurdling scream as the tyre passed his face, prompting shocked security guards and his wife to rush over.
Shockingly, Paul survived the incident. However, he was seriously injured and was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.
Police Major Wutthinan Kongdee of the Pattaya Police Station said: 'We photographed the scene and gathered CCTV footage as evidence. We also summoned the driver for questioning to ensure the case is handled fairly for all parties involved.'
The Mitsubishi driver, Ponlawat Onlamai, 29, said he was picking up ride-hailing app passengers at the venue when the accident occurred.
The distraught motorist said: 'As I was turning the corner, I felt like I hit something and the car bounced. I immediately stopped to check. When I opened the car door, I was shocked to find an injured person lying there. Then people came to help the man. I genuinely did not see him because he was lying on the ground.'
Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1950s and 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand while fighting Communism in Vietnam. Rural families are said to have even dressed their sons as women to cash in on the gold rush.
The handful of bars in the coastal town quickly grew and it is now the world's biggest sex holiday destination, with round-the-clock prostitution, alcohol and drugs - a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah rife with crime and debauchery.
Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence, depravity and claims of corruption continue to blight its reputation.
