On June 24, Rongjiang County in Guizhou was hit by a once-in-30-years catastrophic flood. The county seat suffered severe damage, with many streets submerged under water.

The ground-floor outer shops of the county's largest mall, Changchi Plaza, were nearly half-submerged by the floodwaters. Water gushed into the mall’s central atrium like a waterfall, and within just a few minutes, the water level rose rapidly. A large quantity of merchandise could not be moved in time, resulting in heavy losses for store owners.

The flood caused water levels to surge on many streets throughout the county. Numerous vehicles were swept away or submerged, and some were washed into underground parking garages.

The Qiandongnan Fire and Rescue Brigade provided emergency cross-regional support. As of that morning, 84 people had been evacuated or rescued.

The Rongjiang County Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters raised its emergency response level from Level III to Level I and issued urgent notices for residents in threatened areas to evacuate to safe zones.
