US: Injured Girl Scout Airlifted From Canyon As Rescue Teams Save Eight In Las Padres Wilderness
United States - June 22, 2025 Las Padres National Forest, California – A dramatic rescue unfolded on Sunday, June 22, 2025, southeast of Pico Blanco Mountain. A group of girl scouts and their scout leaders were on an overnight hiking trip when tragedy struck. One girl scout suffered a head injury after falling in a remote, rugged canyon the night before. At first light, a rescue helicopter from Lemoore Naval Air Base arrived. The injured girl and one scout leader were hoisted from the canyon and flown to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas. About an hour later, a second helicopter from CHP Coastal Air Operations arrived. Six more girl scouts and a second scout leader were lifted to safety. They were flown to Andrew Molera State Park and met by Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Parks Rangers. The injured girl received medical attention, while the rest of the group was found safe but lost and unfamiliar with the terrain.
