Suspect rescued from burning car wreckage in California
This is the heart-stopping moment a suspect was rescued from a burning car wreck in California.
The motorist was being pursued by police officers while reportedly driving a vehicle linked to an armed carjacking on June 1.
The high-speed chase ended in flames near 35th Avenue and Freeport Boulevard when the suspect crashed through a chain-link fence and onto Sacramento Executive Airport property.
Officer Nicholas Duncan said: 'As soon as we saw the car on fire, it became more of a rescue mission.'
The crash ignited dry grass, and flames quickly engulfed the vehicle. Police could hear the driver, trapped inside, screaming for help.
Officers Keegan Hironaka, Nicholas Duncan, and Riley Start scaled a fence, smashed a window, and pulled the woman to safety just as the fire intensified.
Officer Keegan said: 'Initially, there was fire around the car, but as we made our approach, the hood of the car was on fire and getting bigger. We didn't have a lot of time, and we moved as quickly as we could.'
Bodycam footage captured the dramatic moment responders freed the woman from the wreckage before placing her in handcuffs.
Authorities said the growing blaze and the potential for a gas tank explosion added urgency to the rescue.
The driver suffered leg injuries and now faces charges in connection with the carjacking and police pursuit.
